Brilliant news from The Star this week. The newspaper has launched an application that allows Kenyan smartphone users to share their news in real time with the rest of their country.
“The ‘reports’ will be anything that the user considers important – traffic, weddings, sports, graduation ceremonies, election related stories — the possibilities are endless,” says Dickens Olewe of The Star.
According to the newspaper, a website will be set up so readers can view the entire stream of content, or filter stories according to various categories and regions. Those stories will also feed into The Star‘s workflow, where the newspaper and affiliated radio and television stations can pick up submitted content for print or broadcast.
