UNDP Iran

As a Public Relations / Coordination Consultant for UNDP-Iran, I:

• Set up interviews, press conferences and donor briefings following a series of minor earthquakes.
• Secured BBC and New York Times coverage of the Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan Ministerial Meeting on Cooperation for Development.
• Wrote and had six success stories published on the UNDP global website within a period of three months.
• Edited UNDP-Iran’s 6-part flagship technical paper series
• Ensured the office met deadlines for the global UNDP re-branding exercise.
• Designed and developed the organisation’s first brochure and website.
• Supported global media events, including the launch of a $31.3M international aid appeal by the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and the UNDP Administrator.
• Worked closely with the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). Organised bi-weekly briefings for International NGOs and donors with members of the UN Disaster Management Team. Disseminated OCHA situation reports; gave input to reports from Geneva; and assisted with requests for accurate and timely information.
• Consolidated the “UN Strategy for Support to Iran following the Bam Earthquake of 26 Dec. 2003”. The strategy — a highly technical document — was published in the International Journal of Seismology and Earthquake Engineering Vol.5, No.4.
• Successfully organised 8 technical workshops with international experts. My duties included venue selection, negotiating with vendors, budget management, organizing travel and accommodation for the international experts (including visa requests), publicity, training support staff, overseeing registration of participants and reporting on the outcomes of the workshops. Also served as Rapporteur for each of these technical meetings.
• Co-designed a Swiss-funded community-based info-management project that was replicated elsewhere in the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region.
